Pioneering project helps adults to learn to read

Read Easy North Staffs is a new project which is helping adults across North Staffordshire to learn to read.

Sue Bell, the charity’s Publicity Co-ordinator, describes how the project works, and what a difference it’s making.

“Come forward, we’ve got all these lovely reading coaches waiting for you, to help you,” says Sue. “You won’t be judged. It’s one-to-one, and it’s free. There’s no pressure. You can come to us feeling confident that you’ll be welcomed.”

There are currently 10 trained volunteer reading coaches, meeting their readers at various locations across Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent, including libraries. For as little as two half-hour sessions each week, adults are improving their reading and benefiting from their learning.
